HM&H has one of the most experienced and distinguished practices in energy and natural resources. The firm has handled transactions related to electricity generation and distribution (including renewables), oil and mineral exploration and exploitation, processing and distribution.

We help companies active in the sector to handle legal challenges in the energy business, such as adverse market conditions, regulatory matters, political instability as well as to protect their energy investment.

Our work includes counsel relating to the development and permitting of hydro power plant projects, wind farm projects, electricity licensing and regulatory matters, grid connections, agreements between electricity companies and producers, expropriation matters for infrastructure projects, waste management concessions, sewerage system investments, oilfield service, oil distribution, mining permits (including exploration and exploitation).

 

We have successfully closed a number of difficult and complex transactions in the energy and resources sector including mergers and acquisitions, project finance and project development in the electricity business - across all fuel and mineral types.

We have helped major European energy companies to successfully invest sums in excess of hundreds of millions of Euros in energy projects in Albania.

 

The firm has moreover hands-on experience of assisting clients in investor protection claims under investment agreements with the Albanian government as well as under bilateral treaties and/or the Energy Charter Treaty.
